The test was a success and attracted the interest of wealthy racing motorist and engineer, Charles Rolls. The two men joined forces to form Rolls- Royce Limited, the famous name that was to become synonymous with quality in motor cars over the next 75 years. From early beginnings in 1904, the two men designed, developed and extended their range. Over the next decade two, four and six cylinder models were built, including the now legendary 1906 40/50 model, later to be called the Silver Ghost. Production in 1978 was a record 3 347 cars of which 60 percent were exported. Rolls Royce continues to search for perfection in uses- including pumping oil from North Sea, specialist Engines powered by liquid petroleum or Natural gas, aircraft engines in use throughout the world, precision components for aerospace and nuclear industries and, as always - the best most sought-after motor car in the world. b.
