Just as the Chaitanya paintings reveal Gaganbabu’s first serious interest in the themes, in the same way they represent his first serious pictorial efforts…The earlier in the series are those which are more linear and closer to the style of Abanindranath…The second group of Chaitanya paintings are those making use of Impressionist brushwork and broken colours. These are also rather more colourful than the rest…The third group…are conspicuous because their compositions have many affinities with Japanese wood block prints.
