The highly stylized and vigorously drawn forms as well as the predominant brown, yellow and silver colour tones, indicate a Kulu origin for these works. The humanoid depiction of the monkeys with cap-like heads and prominent snouts is also seen in painting from Bilaspur and Basholi which influence Kulu artists. – Rpt. from Sotheby’s Auction Catalogue, New York. 22 March 2007; p.180 17* Kulu School, Punjab Hills Ramayana Series Opaque pigments on paper, c.1725-50 / mid 18th century 4.4 x 11.0 in (11.1 x 28.0 cm) Provenance Acquired by Osian’s-Connoisseurs of Art from Sotheby’s, New York 22nd March 2007 INR 300,000 – 450,000 USD 4,480 – 6,720 Antiquity / A.S.I.
