Perhaps, he thought he was losing, too suddenly, contact with nature, which had all along been an intimate compulsion with him. Or, he realized the need to look at nature from a new point of view. In 1950, he spent a few months in Kashmir and brought home fresh material. In the months that followed, he produced a series of paintings which bore the impress of the colour of Kashmir, its peculiar architecture and picturesque people. – S. A.
