177 The Masterpieces SerieS 115 G.r. i ranna (b.1970) Untitled Acrylic on canvas, 2002 S/d in English ‘Iranna 02’ on verso 46.9 x 59.0 in (119.2 x 149.9 cm) INR 800,000 – 1,200,000 US$ 16,670 – 25,000 GR Iranna’s bruised textures and razor sharp cutting edges express the twinge as an abstract force. Iranna’s idealistic, representative works are like symbols of resistance. His work is full of energy which is fueled by oppression and the struggle against it. These fracases being played outside are present also in those between one colour and another, between figure and hue, and between the simplicity and the proficiency employed. The large, basic figure which appear in Iranna’s early paintings emerges only twice in this later series, and though the artist continues to employ repeated motifs in his work, they seem now to be less figurative, leaning more towards form. The lot 120 seems to have a quixotic connotation: the consequence of Iranna’s endeavor to break free from his own language and reorganize his work.
