91 41 Ganesh Pyne (b.1937) Prince Tempera on paper, 1967 S/d in Bengali ‘Ganesh Pyne 67’ l.l. 7.6 x 5.9 in (19.3 x 15.0 cm) INR 1,200,000 – 1,500,000 USD 25,000 – 31,250 A mockery but an intense pathos runs through Pyne’s images of prince, ape as prince/ human being. The dramatic tension in his works is created through psychological interiors that he builds through the layers below the surface. There’s forever a glow in the dark. Geeti Sen in the introduction to her book ‘Image and Imagination’ observes, “The subliminal, the psychic, the illusionary nature of human existence can be said to characterize the work of Ganesh Pyne.”
