55 21 K. Laxma Goud (b.1940) Untitled Bronze, 2007 Threshold Gallery label bearing the gallery address, artist’s name, medium, size and Ref. No. 33.4 x 41.1 in (84.7 x 104.4 cm) INR 1,000,000 – 1,250,000 USD 20,830 – 26,040 Laxma Goud’s works follow a nostalgic stream, wherein the duality of village life and urban existence are always in conflict. He often uses “modern guise of recycling, he constructs reassembled people – stitched, clamped, and pinned together from previously extant elements” (quoting Susan S. Bean from Contemporary Indian Art: Other Realities p52). In this series of bronzes, Goud focuses on the iconic image of yakshis or mother goddesses as depicted in the ancient sculptures with ornamental head gears. And the re-assembled attempt is visible in appliqué technique used in making of the work. It also reminds of K. G. Subramanyan’s murals.
