119 55 Himmat Shah (b.1933) Head Bronze 20.1 x 11.0 x 13.6 in (51.0 x 28.0 x 34.5 cm) INR 2,400,000 – 3,000,000 USD 50,000 – 62,500 Himmat Shah’s terracotta and bronze heads have a special place in the history of Modern Art. They represent a sustained body of deep introspective creativity, tackling the most familiar artistic source of inspiration - the human head, and yet abstracting it to a unique minimalism, head after head, while maintaining its virile and universal intellectual force . In recent years a few of the terracotta’s have been cast in bronze allowing some of the top international collectors to incorporate Himmat Shah in their collection, given the scarcity and fragile nature of the fired terracotta work.
